Blueberries aren’t blue

I know this may sound silly, but aren’t blueberries deep purple and not actually blue? The answer – well, yes. The deep purple that we see is the colour of anthocyanin, a pigment that is especially rich in blueberries.

Though, I agree that calling them purple berries sounds a bit of a tongue twister. Then I thought, why blueberries? Strawberries aren’t red berries? But, blackberries follow the same naming convention as blueberries? Maybe there’s too many red berries. I’m not sure, but I’m berry confused.
