The Jimi Hendrix Experience

James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix was an American musician, singer, and songwriter who is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarist of all time. Hendrix is probably one of the most celebrated musicians in the 20th century. Many recognized Hendrix’s contributions to the world of rock and roll as groundbreaking as they believed that only Hendrix could get more out of an electric guitar than anyone else.

Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that as a child, Hendrix strummed a broom like a guitar after cleaning the floors of his house. His humble beginnings in music began when his father gave him a one-string ukulele. In many ways, music became a sanctuary for Hendrix and with his father’s encouragement, Hendrix taught himself to play guitar.

Have you ever wondered why Emily McGregor idolized Jimi Hendrix?

Since Emily McGregor is a guitarist and her father was a huge celebrity in the music world, it only seemed right that the McGregor family were Jimi Hendrix fans. To honour Hendrix’s contribution to the music world, I decided to have Emily name her guitar after Jimi Hendrix by calling it ‘Jimi G’ and to insert references related to his discography.

Jimi Hendrix’s history in rock music says it all. Constantly, Hendrix defied traditional definitions of music and was the most inventive electric guitarist in rock. People sometimes even wondered if music was actually ‘coming out of the end of his fingers’ because the skill level and craftsmanship he displayed was truly out of this world. Even his stage presence was visually magical; there was so much ‘music’ in him.

How does Hendrix inspire hope?

Hendrix wasn’t just an amazing guitarist. His legacy teaches us to embrace our potential, and to be fearless. Hendrix had an unstoppable creative drive, which helped him discover the fullest range of sound. Plus, he was bold enough to apply his creations, like distortion effects, which forever transformed the sound of rock and roll. Even Hendrix’s lyrics shed insight about boldly going where others have never gone. In the eyes of Jimi Hendrix, our potential was limitless.
