What is standard publication format

There’s a certain standard when it comes to preparing your manuscript for your formatters. Here’s the general guideline below:

  • Use black coloured, 12-point, Times New Roman as the font for your main text.

  • Use the U.S. standard page size of 8.5×11 inches (A4) and set your margins to 1 inch on all sides.

  • Set your text’s alignment to left side.

  • Use a single space after full stops.

  • Use double-spaced line spacing

  • For fiction novels, indent all paragraphs by 0.5 inches, and don’t hit tab or space to indent. No blank lines between paragraphs.

  • For non-fiction books, don’t indent your paragraphs, instead use enter for paragraph breaks. Leave one blank line between paragraphs.

  • Use page breaks for new chapters.

  • Number your pages.

  • Send your manuscript as one Word document (.doc /.docx)

  • Always have a title page with the title of your book, your name, and the word count mentioned on it.
