‘Crazy Rich Asians‘ is a trilogy series about a New Yorker named Rachel Chu who does not know that her loving boyfriend, Nicholas Young, also happens to be Singapore’s most eligible bachelor and likely heir to a massive fortune.
Rachel agrees to spend the summer in Nick’s home and discovers the truth about his background. Being Asian, I was interested to see how Kevin Kwan portrays our culture and to read about the problems that the truly rich need to deal with. This book was an interesting perspective on celebrity life and, at times, almost made you pity the rich.
The novel was well-written, but some of the events in the plot were a bit too dramatized. Though, the humour in the novel was what kept you going and it was quite entertaining to read. If you’re interested in reading this series, I would suggest to not just stop at book one. If you read all three books, you will appreciate how the saga unfolds, especially the family interplay and progression.
