So, you grabbed your reader’s attention with your book cover and picked up your book. Now what? Well, most readers will automatically turn to the back of your book to find out more, but why?
The back of your book is where you’ll find a book description (synopsis) that summarizes the main storyline or highlights themes so the reader knows the genre and the plot. Most books also have some information on the author and some contact information. Other times, back book covers may have testimonials or book reviews from well-known celebrities or individuals in the field.
The purpose of your book cover is to entice your readers to pick up your book. But, the purpose of the back cover is to get your readers to buy your book.
Book descriptions matter. Make sure you don’t give too much of the story away, but you say enough to get them wanting to read more.
