Summer is one of those times when we’re most susceptible to sunburns. And especially when out doing water sports, sunburns are even more likely because the sunscreen we put on washed away and we forget to reapply.
One of the members on our raft unfortunately suffered a pretty severe sunburn – their shoulder was bright red after a few hours in the sun. So, our raft guide, Nanni, suggested they reapply some sunscreen or they will regret it in the morning. That’s when he told us all that we should listen to an inspirational speech by Baz Luhrmann called “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen).“
So, back home from my trip, I finally gave this speech a listen and wow, it felt like someone took all the life lessons I wanted to share in my own quotebook and recorded it in a 7-minute speech. Each line from this speech was inspirational and made me go “that is so true!” in my head after hearing them.
My favourite lines from this speech were:
- “Don’t waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind. The race is long and in the end, it’s only with yourself.”
- “Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know. Didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don’t.”
- “Saying, don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts. Don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.”
