Music is an incredible way to connect with youth and at my ‘Author Talk‘ I prepared an activity where I played the first minute of each song from the ‘Songs of Hope‘ novel soundtrack and the students a series of questions. I wanted to get their opinion on what the music conveys to them.
After listening to each song, all the students felt that they really connected with the music, especially the song ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ because it served as a friendly reminder that we should never give up on ourselves. One student even said that if they are feeling down, this is the song they want to listen to.
As a songwriter, it’s the best feeling to know that your words can resonate with others. Many of the students agreed that using music to spread the message of hope is much more effective than any other medium because youth connect better with music.
