Today, I was invited to give another motivational talk to a grade 8 class in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). This was a shorter session with Ms. Chin and Ms. Lozej’s class with a focus on how we can be leaders and accomplish our goals.
These grade 8s will be entering high school next school year, and this session was perfect for these students because I wanted to inspire them as they move to the next stage of their academic career.
We cannot sit around and wait for things to happen. We must take action and take advantage of opportunities whenever they arise. We must not be scared of uncertainty and work hard to make things happen. Life is never easy for anyone and there are times when we feel like we’re pulling the weight of the world on our shoulders. But, it doesn’t have to be.
Using examples from my self-publishing experience of my novel, ‘Hold on please, Emily,’ I explain to these grade 8s why they must take action in their life. I also organized some fun activities that involved the accompanying novel soundtrack, ‘Songs of Hope,’ to show the students the power of music for coping during stressful or difficult times.
I have one more ‘Author Talk‘ scheduled this week with TDSB. I look forward to sharing that experience with you all soon.
